D-3 UC Sierra special hunt

I just heard about a special hunt for the UC Sierra area in D-3. From what I was told it is a special draw only within D-3 .

Has anyone heard of this or have any info? I've been looking on the web site and Google but haven't been able to find any info.

Seems unlikely the DFG would announce a special hunt this late. Many hunters already have their two allotted tags, unless DFG is waiving the two tag per season rule.

I know theres several Junior only hunts in D3, and 2 other special hunts.

Maybe property owned by the UC system they are conducting a study? To see how fast a science project can be shut down by UC treehuggers?

This is not a new hunt. I just heard about it. I am interested in trying to draw it next year

Thanks. I'll have to talk to the guy that told me about it and try to get more info. He said his dad has drawn it a few times and hve found some huge bucks.

Maybe it's private property or somthing. He said it was off highway 20 passed Grass Valley.

Doing some more research it may be UCCE Plumas - Sierra. It looks like they had a hunt on the web site but was removed from the site so not sure what to think now. Still can't find anything on the Cal web site so I'm thinking maybe they did their own draw to hunt heir property.

IKC, it might university property that operates it's own special hunt. Cal Berkley has a research ranch above Hopland that has a hunt for the first three weekends of A zone. They run the hunt as a draw 20 hunters per day.

I bet that's it. I saw Hopland on the website.

They sent me an electronic app, I'll look thru the trash and see if I can find it. Keep in mind it's a one day hunt not a weekend hunt, so say if you drew a Sunday the ranch had been hunted hard the previous day.

If I remember right, it's UC Davis that owns the land. It's on the north side of the yuba river just up stream from the yuba river bridge. They used to have a drawings for access to the land to hunt or fish for whatever is in season. I haven't heard or seen much about it recently, there should be info on the cdfw site.

goindeep, i think your right.

IKIC, the uc davis ground is in yuba county and they take applications for access to hunt their property. A co-worker of mine is familiar with the process so i'll ask him tomorrow. They do kill some dandy blacktails on that property. I believe the access pas is good for one day but i'll check it out.

Thanks. There isn't much on the hunt out there. I had to send out a few emails and phone calls to get in contact with the correct people but did get it figured out. There isn't any info on draw odds either. I guess I'll find out soon enough. 25 hunters are eligible for the hunt. Each hunt is one day and cost $50

That's exactly what the Hopland hunt was and cost. It has a skinning building with a cooler if hunting with others or you wanted to get the meat cooler.

This one is in Browns Valley. Hope to draw and see if it really is what I've heard. It could be a neat spot if it turns out.

I hunted the property once as a junior for turkey, nice piece of land. What were the hunt dates? It can get hot as hell down there, hopefully if you get drawn you get some good weather.
