Crossing Railroad Tracks

Here in Wisconsin there is a relatively new state law that makes it illegal to cross railroad tracks except at "approved" crossings. Pretty significant fines and frequent enforcement. We lost public access to a number of great hunting and fishing locations. What are the rules regarding crossing railroad tracks in Wyoming or other states?

It has been pretty much the same law in all the states.

When the rail roads fired up back in the 1800's they almost became sovereign nations in what they can and can not do.

Depending on the railroad, the railroad probably owns outright most portions of the corridor ie; “fee simple” title.

If they dont want you on it. They can prevent you (with legal force) from being on it, over it or under it.

I always figured it was kinda like corner crossing.

Depends on the railroad I guess on how they enforce things...

A conductor may just honk his horn and give you a thumbs up if you have a deer in a wheelbarrow. lol

I have about 1/2 mile of railroad tracks going through my property here in Michigan. At some point the state turned the land over to the landowners and gave the railroad a 100 foot easement on the properties they go through. I assume that is that they can charge me Property tax on it while the railroad uses it for free.
