I noticed that the G&F upped antlerless tags in this unit for 2016 and changed the season dates-early hunt on priv only, then open on the whole area in Oct. They said in this year's hunt guide about "elk avoiding hunters" on priv land as being the reasons they are doing this. Cow harvest success seems low over the years as compared to other units like 61, 7, 125 or 45 I am also looking at.
Unless a guy had access to priv, the early opening on priv land won't be helpful, but the area wide opening in Oct might be. Studying maps and posts from prev yrs show there are some spots of state land around, and if they are still in the Nat'l Forest in Oct, there is obviously ample access there.
If anyone has hunted this tag or knows friends that have, any info shared is appreciated. I realize the setup of the dates is different this year than years past.
