Alright so I like eggs and I have dried different brands of freeze dried eggs and didnt like them. So last year someone here recommended OVAEASY egg crystals so I tried them. The Jetboil or similar stoves get to hot to cook them in like a real stove and they get scorched or burned on even the low setting making a mess. Anyway after doing some experimenting I figured out a way to cook them and they come out perfect.

1. Add 3/4 of a cup of water to the jet boil.
2. In a small sandwich ziplock bag add your eggs and water by volume just like you were cooking them on a stove.
2a. Add any extras like bacon ham salt pepper etc to the mix.
3. Zip the bag and shake vigorously for about a minute.
4 Put in jet boil and fire it up. the bag will float and you don't want it to touch the bottom.
5. Bring to boil and as the eggs cook occasionally remove the bag and kneed the egg mix with your hands. Careful the mix is hot. About half way through leave the bag open to let a little water from the eggs evaporate.
6 As the eggs cook you will notice water from the mix when this happens the eggs are done.
7.Pour out the little bit of water in the bags and they are ready to eat right out of the bag..
8 Total cook time approximately 5 minutes and no mess to clean up.

No the water and no direct heat on the sides kept the bag from melting. It the bag and egg mix will float for the most part I just pushed it down in the water enough to cover the egg mix. The another good thing is that the water that you boil is still good to use for coffee hot chocolate etc..

One canister last me about one week.
Just cooked 6 Mountain House meals, 6 cups of coffee, and water for four ramen noodles and never ran out of fuel this past week on a small canister. So I second 25contender, at least a week for two boils a day.

Are these OvaEasy egg crystals shelf stable? Can you make a bag-o-eggs for each morning in the field?

Very cool! Thanks

How long will a small canister of fuel last on the jetboil?

This is good info. I like a cup of coffee before the morning hunt and at breakfast and got 5 days on a small canister that had been used before I left. Once you hear no splashing in the can, u have about 3 boils left.

Sorry I was out hunting and aw these posts. Yes they are shelf stable. I actually put three eggs worth of crystals in a small food saver bag and seal it. Then in the mornings I just add 4oz of water and cook. I cooked eggs about every other morning this past trip.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade but cooking in soft plastic will leach plastic into your food,I would suggest saving the aluminium tuna fish package and cooking in that instead.

Before I did this I did a little research on the bags and all bags made now including Ziploc are BPA free. I would guess you are more likely to melt the bag before you would get sick. I do know that Food save bags are free of BPA, phthalates, and other plasticizers so it might be a option as well. There is also a bag called Cook-In-Bags that approved for boiling.
