Controlled Elk tag

Looking to expand my non resident hunting opportunities. I was thinking about a controlled elk tag but am I understanding it correctly that Idaho has no preference point system? I quit applying in New Mexico (no point system) when they started making you buy a general license just to apply for a tag that I hadn't got in 10 years of applying.

That is correct on Idaho! NM now has a 6% cap on DIY NR tags, but they do allow you to request that your license fee be refunded now under their new rules.

You still have to buy a hunting license before applying for a tag. Nonresident tags are capped, so you can only draw a percentage of tags available.

When you look at everyone having an equal chance for the draw, not factoring in the percentage that goes to only out of staters-Hmmm maybe they are on to something. Also this dissudes the people that cant afford to put up the full fee so it may not be a bad thing. Good luck and God bless
