does anyone have any experience filming their own hunts with a hat mounted GoPro? I hunt solo quite a bit and would love to be able to capture those have to see moments but the inconvenience of pulling a small camera out of my pack let's virtually all those experiences go undocumented. I know cameras can be mounted on a bow but hoping something would work on a hat so it would capture where I'm looking and what I'm seeing without pointing the bow, at camp on the trail etc. anyone have experience with this and which camera do you like? Thoughts?

You reminded me with this thread that I got one for my birthday! It's the hero 3 white edition. I went to best buy today and picked up the "chesty" mount, head mount and tripod mount. I'm stoked to take it to AZ in January and see what kind of video I come back with. I downloaded the app just now and it's really fun! I can turn my phone into a wireless remote and review all video and images on my phone. Sorry for the lack of advice.. But thanks for the reminder!

I wouldn't think the GoPro would be a very good camera for filming hunts. Due to the wild field of view, they make everything appear farther than it actually is, so they arent good for filming anything at a distance. I don't have any experience with the Hero 3 or 4 though so maybe the newer ones are different.

It's still a very wide f.o.v. Not the ideal choice for longer ranges. But I think if your within 70-80 yards you can crop and zoom the film to be useful. It won't be tv quality. But good enough to share. I think it will add a cool point of view to a film. Still plan on trying to get the rx100 (point and shoot) on a tripod for another angle.

I used a mounted go pro during this last archery season and the one thing I was disappointed with was the animal had to be within close range in order for it to work. The 20-30 yard range it picks up animals great but anything past that they look really small on film. I shot my antelope at 60 yards and you couldn't even see the point of impact on the animal. Don't think I'd ever use it again to try and film hunts
