Confused- Wyoming Type 4 vs. Type 6 Elk

Hi Everyone,

I can't figure out the difference between the type 4 anterless elk tag and the type 6 cow/calf tag. Also- it looks like the type 4 tag uses the preference point system and the type 6 doesn't.


Any help is apprecaited.

Type 4 is a regular priced cow tag, type 6 is a reduced price additional tag. I don't know how it works for non-residents, as a resident you can draw a type 4 tag and pick up an additional type 6 tag. Hope this helps.

I think of it this way. A type 4 is your elk tag for the year. U can still get an additional cow/calf tag while possessing a type 4 tag. But it would not be possible to get a general tag or a type 1 tag or a type 2 tag or a type 9 tag if u have a type 4 tag.

Another way to think of it is this. If u get a type 4 tag. U won't be shooting a bull elk that year

Yeah, type 4 is a full price elk tag. You can only have one full price elk tag.

You can have up to 3 Elk tags. One full price and one reduced price from the initial draw, then another reduced price after the initial draw from an exception area (unit). If you don't draw a full price tag in the draw, you can buy no more than two reduced priced tags in the left over sale. Both of those can be from a std area.
Wyoming uses the term "antlerless" to designate a full price Cow/Calf tag from the reduced price (cow/calf) tag.
Points only for full price tags. You lose points for 1st choice only. Also, the full price draw is separate from the reduced price so you can't have a type 1/4 as first choice then type 6 as 2nd.

Bob, I think a type 1 elk tag is an "Any Elk" tag in some areas.
