There are 2 of us with more than enough points to draw 3rd season and trying to decide which unit to go for. Planning on unguided public land and looking for respectable bucks. It seems that 66 is somewhat preferred from the research that I have done to date, but I would be interest to know if that is accurate. So which unit and why?

I hunted 66 2nd in 2014. It seemed like the bucks were just on the verge of staging for the rut as we wrapped up our hunt, but most of the migrating deer were still holed up in the transition range. From guys I've talked to, hunting in 67 was about the same. I don't think there's a nickles worth of difference between them unless you're after a specific buck.

It took 11 preference points to draw 3rd season deer tags in units 66 and 67 for 2015. I would guess due to the dates this year you will see at least a point or more creep. Hope you have enough to cover that and if you do draw I wish you the best. I would like to draw 4th season but not sure I can with 22pp. Have been concerned about the snow in the basin but have not heard any negative effects on the deer. If you know anything about that please let us know.

17 points, more than enough for 3rd in either unit. Nowhere near enough for 4th and no intention of buying more.

Hi everyone, my friend and i have applied for archery elk for 66 this year and are hoping to draw with 5 points. We have a handful of potential spots that we are going to scout over the summer but any advice from someone thats hunted this unit would be greatly appreciated. We are not from Co so we are limited to one scouting trip over the summer for a few days. Thanks in advance

Pick a spot in the timberline region, especially that takes little effort to get to, and there will be elk. Promise.

Thanks for the advice. We're looking to scout the southern part of the La Garita below the divide and possibly the western side of the Uncompahgre.

Looks like we did draw 66 3rd mule deer as expected, and have 1 cow elk tag if the opportunity presents itself.
