I finally drew a moose tag in Unit 6 and am looking for any assistance in where to hunt.
I have hunted elk in unit 161 for 28 years but have never ventured over to the east side of walden.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would stop in and ask around at the visitor centers in Gould and Walden. Chat up the campers too. I got plenty of unsolicited moose reports poking around North Park.

Unit 6 is a great moose area. What season are you hunting? Early in the season, some of the biggest bulls will be up in the timberline country. Once the bulls start to rub their velvet off and late September rolls around their patterns change considerably. Take a look at the CPW stats to see where bulls have been taken in the past. The Michigan River drainage is a popular spot in that area. You should have a great hunt.

I am hunting the rifle season which runs October 1-14. I plan on getting up there and doing quite a bit of scouting ahead of time.

I drew that area a couple years back. I got mine with a muzzle loader. What I found though was that where you see them now won't necessarily be where you will see them come hunting season. I also found that the elk hunters were a tremendous help when it came to intel on where they were seeing moose. PM me and I can give my 2 cents worth. There are a lot of moose up there! You really have the hardest part done by drawing the tag. Good luck!
