Going to be in Colorado for the first time in September . Second week in the vail area. Wondering about temps, highs, lows, general weather. What sorts of clothing? Heavy light base layers outlets etc. Current inventory is Kuiu attack pants, first lite Labrador sweater and rain gear. Wondering about heavy insulation light, mid or heavy merino base layers. Don't want to buy too much or little, thanks!

Generally its 70's daytime 30's nighttime. Last year we had a few days of 50 nighttime low then the last few days were 50 daytime high. I'm camped in about 4-6 miles so not too bad to walk back out to the truck for warmer clothes. Mornings and evenings get pretty chili if you plan to do a lot of sitting, hand warmers help. Usually if its real cold it will be raining or snowing.

I have been snowed on every month of the year here in CO...years ago I remember trying to still hunt in heavy snow/fog on my anniversary which is 9/18.

I haven't been hunting in the vail area, but around Ouray(southwest) I have. Was around 30 or so in the mornings, but the hiking kept the chill off. The days were nice up until the last day I was there. Snow came in and blanketed everything. I would stick with mid weight base layers, rain gear, and your first lite. The rain gear will help to keep the chill off while glassing even if it doesn't rain.

Like others have said, bring rain gear. I have hunted above Vail ever since I was old enough to remember and have been in just about every kind of weather you can imagine. That time of year you could be in short sleeves one day, then bundled up the next.
