Colorado High Country

I really want to try a high country mule deer hunt i know i will have to have a few points to draw a unit more then likely so i would be looking at 2017-18. Any recommendations on units in Colorado to look at this would obviously be archery.

there are a bunch of units for archery you can draw with no points.

As was said there are a lot of options. If you are set on Archery you could go this year. Some units can be drawn as a 2nd choice if you are going with archery. I would start with the Colorado big game brochure and highlight the units that would give you the hunt type you are looking for. Then compare against the draw results from last year and highlight the units that can be had with 0 points and fine tune your search from there. That should help you narrow your field to a few units rather then 2/3 of the state.

Man you boys have been livin in a hole all units in Colorado have been "high" units for a couple of year now.. LOL pun intended!

Best way is to find them for yourself... Here is a tip we have something called the continental divide runs north to south across the entire state and fair to say it is pry pretty high up along the continental divide - like higher than most places in the USA. Or at the very tippie top of the mountains water flows one of 2 directions but always down hill! Another tip is to look for river drainage or.. The major drainages are S Platte, N Platte, Yampa, Colorado, Gunnison, Dolores, Arkansas, and Rio Grande. Again water will flow one of 2 ways... Or ya look at a topo map and the numbers get "higher" as you go up look for numbers like 12,000, 13,000 or even 14,000 would fair to say be "high".

Archery CO is Aug 27th - Sept 25th and encompasses the entire GMU

Early rifle is typically a few days clumped together anytime before the 15th of September and are labeled as above timber line hunts.

Lighten up a little, calling people's responses "smartass" after 11 posts is probably not going to garner you lots of info. Ask specific well thought-out questions and hope for someone to share info they put effort into attaining.

If you care so see the logic lose the pot refer ences then think about the inverse of water flowing downhill.. The basin is yours to choose... Look at maps - lots of maps - different maps - good ones are easy to find on line. Be mindful that it is the process that matters most as focusing on the product seldom produces desired results most are looking for.
