Thanks fellas, the experience was awesome. Plan to head out west every fall for some type of hunt from now on. Sure beats stand hunting whitetails here in the flatlands of Maryland.
Indeed. Personally, I think there is more self satisfaction hunting like a wolf as opposed to a bird of prey.

Congrats! Great DIY bulls! Myself and a buddy came from the east as well this year, did the same but ate our tags so I can appreciate the effort you must've put into to take these bulls. Especially for your first trip! It was a great learning experience for us. Glad you guys made out well.

Yea you got me buzzin partner. Theses 2 hunters obviously had extensive practice time and were confident in their skill/ shot placement. A job well done guys. Congrats.

Awesome hunt way to go! I will be going to Colorado in 2015 for DIY first rifle. I too am an eastern shore flatlander from Delaware over near the beaches. This will be my second DIY hunt in Colorado. Saw lots of elk last time but did not connect. Your pictures now have me thinking maybe I will go a year early in 2014!

North of New Castle in unit 33, we didn't see an abundance of elk but were lucky enough to connect on these two guys.

I hunted in 34 in the 70's before it was a draw unit. Hunted in 33 but within sight of where we hunted in 34 after that. I can still remember all the bulls I would see from 33 looking across the canyon into 34. Had 3 bighorns walk by me one day. There was an army of orange in 33 so we hunted bow after about 81. Been thinking lately I would go back and bow hunt there again just to see if the elk patterns were the same.
