I'm looking to get my dad out for a DIY rifle elk hunt next year in colorado. Would anyone be interested in lending me their opinion on GMU 20 2nd or 3rd season? Basically i'm wondering if the elk are accessible without getting mules and if there's a better jump off point to get into the backcountry late in October. We plan on backpacking in and have good experience with late season tent hunts. My dad is in good enough shape to hunt 11-12k units so terrain shouldn't be an issue.
The major issue is that he hasn't shot an elk in his first 6 OTC archery seasons and I really want to get him a bull on a DIY hunt. If you prefer to private message me that's cool too. Just trying to get my dad his first bull.
