Okay guys I want to apply for my second choice a solid unit that I can get in with 0 points. 25-26 looked like good odds? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! Early archery. I'll have 5-7 days to hunt. I want to backpack in.

Ah, I see your other post now. I don't personally have any experience w/ muley hunting the Flat Tops, but do know that in terms of some of Colorado's other wilderness areas, it's relatively difficult to put nasty terrain between you and the bulk of the rest of competition. Had a buddy a couple years ago do a 1st week archery elk hunt and saw very few deer up in the high stuff. That said, of the 3 or 4 bucks he did spot, one was a GIANT! I know that's vague, but I guess bottom line is that don't expect a ton of deer in that area, but quality is there.

A common mistake is trying to hunt elk in that area opening of archery and expecting to see mule deer also. Gents it wont happen IMO they will cross altitudes roughly 15 Sep. I spend 90% of my time up that way every year.

That being said I do have archery elk and muley tags in my pocket but will focus on the elk first, get one down then focus on muleys. I though have the luxury of being here and able to spend a lot of time in the woods so I acknowledge that may not be a good plan for NR hunter. All the best

What did you end up signing up for?

Through the backdoor process it looks like a drew for 25, plan on going Sept 17-24, but have never been there.
