There a number of new changes, including unit 54 being OTC for elk now, plus you guys can now go out and get your hunter pink camo, now legal in CO
Unit 54 is some rough country...
NO one wears pink in my tent unless my wife takes up hunting!

Look close, camo versions are not legal. Must be fluorescent orange or pink. Yuk!! Won't catch me in any pink.

I don't to get started with a rant..............but, I hate the orange (and now pink!) requirement here in Colorado. Wyoming is ok, hat only. I lived for over 50 years in a western state that had no orange requirement (still doesn't) and taught hunter safety. We got all the data from the state F & G and the accidental shooting for big game hunters was almost non existent, less than here in Colorado (I've checked). The rational & reasoning for hunters being able to see each other and be safer is just political correctness.

I still can't see the reasoning behind M/L elk hunters in the field at the same time as archery with the bow hunters in camo & M/L's in orange. Just plain stupid.

Rant over...LOL

The one time I hunted Colorado, I didn't realize until the night before that I had to have an orange hat and vest both. I had a vest, but just a camo cap. Luckily, the Wal-Mart in Craig still had a few overpriced orange caps in stock.

This past fall, I hunted California. Felt strange rifle hunting with no orange.

I hear you loud and clear CC. Never understood wearing orange in ML season while hunting with folks in camo during the same archery hunting time frame. Pure BS but I guess these are the folks from the 19 Trillion dollar in debt government who are here to help and protect us.

The thing I noticed is that they are going to all paperless applications in 2018. Does anyone know how this will affect the current requirement for nonresidents to apply for sheep and goat with cash up front?

That's the same thing I was wondering. I messaged a guy on a different forum about that and he said it's all about reducing money spent with processing all those apps. I'm afraid they'll go to a system where you don't have to front the money and the apps will explode by a factor of 10...

NDHunter, I think it will be just the opposite. They probably will require you to make the full payment then return your money 3 or 4 months later. Of course it will all be done on line with a credit card payment.

I do not see how it would be any different than the current on-line process. You just pay with a credit card for the amount you owe and the reimbursement comes a couple of months later in the form of a check. That is the only way I have been doing it for the past 5 years. Very easy on my end, the paper apps will just be ending from my understanding.

Also not sure the elimination of paper will increase or even change the number of application. I think there would only be a very small decrease from the people who refuse to use a computer.

You aren't a nonresident applying for moose, sheep, or goat. :)

Another change is that you may find an asterisk (*) in the SEX column, (stay with me guys and don't let your mind wander). That means that there were leftovers after the initial draw. Now however, they also added the * in limited areas if a tag had been turned in and was then put on the leftover list. I called CPW, because I wondered why I hadn't been contacted as the next senior point holder who didn't draw, and was told that will be the new rule for next year. Someone who doesn't check the demand index or statistics page could easily make a wrong assumption on leftover tags.

2017 LICENSE REISSUE POLICY
■ Any license that is returned to CPW that took 5 or more preference points to
draw will be manually reissued to the next eligible person based on the
residency status of the returned license.
» If a resident license gets returned, it will be reissued to a resident; if a
nonresident license gets returned, it will be reissued to a nonresident.
■ For each license returned, CPW will contact the next 5 people from the
current year’s draw order.
■ If one of those individuals accepts the license from the manual reissue process,
all of that person’s preference points will be used.
■ If a person has a current conflicting license for that species, they may
exchange their current license for the one being offered.
» The exchange fee will be assessed, which is fifty percent of the cost of the
original license, not to exceed $25.
■ If none of those 5 people accept the license from the manual reissue process, it
will be placed onto the leftover list at random intervals.
■ Any license that is returned to CPW that took fewer than 5 preference points
to draw will automatically be placed onto the leftover list at random intervals.
■ Customers who obtain a license from the leftover list will NOT have to use
their preference points.
CPW will be making additional adjustments to the license refund, reissue
and exchange policies in 2017. Check our website for the most up-to-date
