CO Unit 55 3rd Season

Hey all,

Have the points to draw this tag as a NR. Have done quite a bit of research. It seems kind of 50/50, as far as people's outlook on the 3rd season hunt here.

Anyone hunted this unit, or know someone who has hunted this unit, in the past year or two that could chime in on your experience? Not looking for specifics, just a general overview of your thoughts/experience on the hunt.

One of my co-workers drew the tag in 09, just a year after the big winter die-off, and he killed the best buck he found a 175" typical. Said it was pretty tough, as I imagine it would be after you lose a big chunk of the local deer population.

I've scouted hard for a muley two years while elk hunting MZ season (covered many a mile doing it) in unit 55 all to no avail...even spending days spike camped in the wilderness areas. It ain't that there's no deer, there are! They must know I'm looking for them and are hiding! I'm heading back out again this fall; yup, to unit 55. Ain't gonna give up. I scout very high up. People who know say if'n you want a muley anytime go low especially around crop fields. No surprise there but later seasons going low is about your only option. Good luck!
