Just wondering if anyone has hunted this unit before. I am applying for a rifle tag here this year, I am a flat lander from OK and am learning as I go on Elk hunting

a friend of mine hunted it last year with a bow and was into elk every day. not sure how the hunting would be during rifle season there.

If your gonna hunt 500, you had better be in mountain shape. We hunt an adjacent unit and it kicks my dad's tail every year. He still lives in Oklahoma, but I moved up here about 5 years ago. The unit we hunt has some steep country in it too, but not near as high as 500. Good luck!!!

You probably should allow several days before you hunt to aclimate yourself.

Not too change the subject. Sounds like a good place for a backpack hunt, because of the difficult terrain. Do the ATV's have much access there?
