Guy, I really enjoyed the show a few weeks ago where you and your dad went to CO hunting pronghorn. Congrats on one heck of a buck. Was that on public land or on the Hills Ranch? Thanks for your time.

TR175, I killed that buck in Bobby's (Hill Ranch) cow pasture. Those antelope units down there have almost zero public land. It's more like NM than CO. It was a DIY hunt but not on public land.

That's what I figured when I seen there info flash up at the end of the show, but when you look for them on the internet all they advertise are deer and elk hunts. Do they offer tress passing for a fee to hunt antelope?

Also, will you be attending the ISE show in SLC, UT this year? I would like to discuss a couple WY antelop and deer units if you have a minute. Thanks again for your time.

TR, They don't run any antelope hunts at this time. They have been working to improve the habitat to hopefully offer some antelope hunts in the near future. The Hill's just bought that ranch. I will be at the SLC show, so if you want to come by and chat about WY antelope, I would be more than happy to help. See you there.

Hey Guy, I did drop by in SLC and received some very good info about WY deer and antelope. I have a rifle tag for antelope in 53 this year. Any suggestions? I was thinking of passing on the opening weekend and hunting the end of the hunt. How late do they rut in that unit? Thanks again for all the great info.

Cowboy Country!!
The goats tend to rut in 53 during the beggining of the rifle season, late September. I have been applying for 53 for 5 years now without success. I have killed 2 B&C bucks in there on my last 2 tags and a friend killed one that scored 88 last year. The unit is so big that many of the antelope do not get pressured right away. I have not checked the dates, but if opening day is not on a weekend I would say be out there. IMHO. I do have a doe tag over there and plan on chasing one with a stick and string. I will let you know what I see.

BTW the antelope in my picture is from 53.

wyoming_man, I appreciate the info. I'm sure I will be there opening day. It's hard to sit home when you have a tag in hand. I hunted 32 in the past up by Casper (terrible unit now by the way) and the bucks were rutting clear in to the middle of Oct. That's why is ask. I know here in UT the younger bucks are already starting the hang with the does.

If you do see anything further info would be much appreciated. Good luck on your archery hunt.
