Here's a couple of pics from a few years ago when the birds were thick. Sometimes we have lots of birds down here in southern Nevada.

Been hunting Chukars since the 60's when they were first planted in California. I have hunted them in Calif, Oregon, Nevada, Utah and here in Colorado. They are my favorite upland game bird. The picture is from a hunt in 1975 at China Lake NWC. Used to be able to get permission to hunt it once in awhile. Hunting was unbelievable. My buddy in the window giving us the bird, was because he didn't want to go out in the snow and hunt!!!

Devil Birds. When there is the right amount of snow, it can be easy, seen it once or twice, but where is the fun in a painless Chuckar hunt?

These birds were somewhat predicable coming into my in-laws cattle feeding operation. I waited for quite a while to try for this photo, sitting hidden on some farm equipment. I accidentally flushed them soon after the photo. I ended up eating a few of them, or their friends, later that evening, after chasing them up in the hills! I had the last laugh,, This time!

I love hunting the devils bird and after 30 years of chasing them I finally had a couple of them mounted. Strange as it may be they were two of the largest birds that I have ever taken and my taxidermist just happend to be a short distance away so I just had to do it. I'll need to get a couple of photos of the mount and post them.

But I have a question for you Nevadan's, have you ever gone after the Himalayan Snowcock up in the Ruby mountains. I didn't learn of them until just a few years ago and if I was 30 years younger I would be after them.

You guys probably know I was born & raised in California, When I was a teenager we started hunting them right after they were stocked, took hold and a season was set. The F&G stocked 3 or 4 different types of partridges, shotgun style trying to see if one would take. I really can't remember the other types, but one year I shot a bird that was a lot larger and colored differently. A Warden checked us and told me it was one of the other type. I'll bet the Snowcock was stocked in a similar fashion. They would never do this today because none of these birds are "native", neither is the pheasant for that matter.

Roger, a lot of us do know that you're from California. But, please don't worry...we respect you, in spite of it!! Those other birds, I believe were likely of the species Conservatus Americanus, they've all fled or been killed in California by now!

Btw...I was raised in southern California!
