WE have a feral cat probem and its getting worse. We raise white Doves for weddings and such in enclosed cages. Also a great amount of wild Gambels Quail and Euarasian and Mourning Doves, lots of rabbits also. The cats are decimating the wildlife on our property. We have cages and transport them into the desert,Only have 2 acres so only our pellet guns can be used.Any other ideas other then poisoning? Use my sisters dogs on the weekend, but the cats are wild and very wary.
Any ideas?

Aerial trap sets. Look up trap sets for fishers, pine martins, and bobcats. Traps go up and off the ground, and the only thing getting into it has to be able climb.

When you take them out to the desert make sure that they don't return.

I have a racoon problem and they have learned not to come around when the motion detour lights go on so I am going to have to resort to trapping them. The one problem with that is the neighborhood cats and the skunks in the area. I plan on building a platform between 2 trees where only the racoon's and cats will be able to get to them. Then I can weed out the cats and dispose of the racoon's.

I have seen a standard cage trap used over water for cats. Maybe a stock tank would work if you don't have water. Cat goes in and it's weigh makes the trap fall into the water.

Nice and quiet for in town situations.

go_deep.Excellent idea,I know exactly the traps you are talking about.saw it on a trapping show/You Tube.

JimP, we used to just let them go in the desert.Thought the Coyotes would get a free meal. Many miles in to the desert and the same cats kept returning.Used a can of traffic marking paint and marked the suckers. If they came back again they took "The Long Walk" in the desert never to return!
We do have racoons, but thats a plus for the hides.

Thining of the herd.Had some old live traps behind Dads boat.Set um' up with cans of tuna fish and they are producing within 2hrs.A lot easier for them to stalk a can of tuna than a wild Quail or Rabbit!

Build your own plywood live traps, and bait them with hotdogs. Take the trap out to a secluded area and finish the job with a .22 pistol. I have 2 housecats that I love to death, but have zero tolerance for feral cats.

Still have one left as far as I can tell. One trap by the old boat(where they stash the dead rabbits)one by the Coyote run where they sneak onto our propery.Leveled out strategic places so I can follow their field of travel.Only one set of prints left.Sardines for dinner tonight, then a long walk in the desert.
