Carrying your bow

I have a Primos sling and have used it quite a bit, but I always fall back to a belt hook when I'm hunting. It's more comfortable than carrying the bow in your hand and is really convenient for glassing because you don't have to set the bow down. I set my bow in it and rest my hand on it to keep it balanced while walking. For just hiking and getting there, I strap it to my pack. I've also tried the Kuiu bow bucket, but it was a pain to put my back in it if I pulled if I pulled it out.

On elk hunts in the mountains, it goes on my pack for the hike in and out. But when hunting, I just carry it by the string mostly, but after a while that gets old so I flip it around and carry it by the handle. Then once that gets old, back to the string, etc etc. The only time it's really a pain is when I want to use my binocs, I need to set it down so I can use both hands to look at something. A sling doesn't weigh much, and might be worth looking into.
another thing that I love is a kickstand for the bow. comes in handy when I want to pull up knocks for a sec while on the walk, and works awesome to have arrow knocked while sitting on a wallow or in a blind, I always cringe when I have to lay bow down, I'm always so worried its gonna slide, or somethings going to break. I keep kick stand in back pocket and when needed pull it out and put on. easy to use.
I've been using a Shaffer (Balcom)Archery sling for the last 18 or so yrs. It consists of basically an adjustable length string with a leather neck pad, and a lockable hook that mounts to the end of your cable guard (they had one that attached to the wheel type too). So the bow would hang from your cable guard, easy on and off, just lift and its off the string and you're ready to shoot. No bulk or wieght.

I'd used the same type as Backyard for years. It attached to the cable guide and had a clip that would rotate and lock the string down. I really hated the extra string around my neck. Between the elk calls, the binocular straps, and the backpack, it was just annoying. And the pad would rub my neck. I've just been carrying my bow by the handle, string, whatever for the past few years. And when I can, I strap it onto my pack and am hand free. What I do have, is a small u-shaped screw in hanger to hang a bow from a tree when I'm on stand. Don't have to balance with your knees then or hope there is a broken branch to hang it from.

I have tryied them all and I always end up just carrying the bow by the string after all is said and done!! I haven't found a sling that stays on my shoulder and I don't like the ones that come across the back and chest. The best one I had was just a old neoprene bino sling with a rubber loop on each end that go over the cams.
