I was wondering what kind of boots people were wearing on caribou hunts in alaska these are the ones i ordered and like them but they only come in whole sizes and i wear a 11.5 so i ordered a 11 and a 12 and the 11 are way to tight and the 12 are pretty sloppy. Im wondering what other people are wearing and the thing i really like about these is that the wader actually rolls down and is out of the way.if you watch the video clip at the bottom of the link you will see. All the other hip boots seem like they would be bulkly what are your thoughts. Thanks

It really depends the area where you are hunting. Caribou are mostly in the hills/ mountains so the only time you need waders is creek crossings. I use a pair of NEOS slip over wader to cross creeks.

I've never hunted where your going. You should call your transporter and ask them what they recommend. They certainly have a good idea of where they are putting you. The conditions can be so variable up here that it's tough to know beforehand. Sometimes you can get by with just a good pair of extra-tuffs.

I wore snake boots and liked them. They are knee high and waterproof. Lots of ankle and leg support for the tundra and I could cross all of the small creeks without getting wet.

When crossing creeks while sheep hunting we just tied our goretex pants tight at the bottom and went for it, this works good, if your not just standing in the water. I also have a pair of sock foot breathable hip waders that roll up real small that a guy could use with crocs when needed.
I know a couple things that will make a big difference if your gonna hunt in regular hip waders, is to get breathable material and make sure they are ankle fit boots, or they will rub sore spots on your legs and ankles. We work in waders about half the time and have found that those two simple things are the most important as far as being comfortable all day.Frog Togs make great breathable lightweight ankle fit chest waders, but I'm not sure about hip waders.

I just used gortex boots. Next time I will bring gaiters to keep my pants dry and the top of my socks. My buddy had a set of wiggys; crossed water and fished with them. Not for hiking in. Also bring a patch kit; they don't like alders!

i bought a pair of those cabelas tundra boots, the concept is really good but they only come in whole sizes and the 11 is too small and the 12 is huge, i would like to use my kenetrek gators and kenetrex boots since they are so comfortable but as looking at those socks that go underneath the boots but if i wanted to use my boots later with out the water socks my boots are going to be soaking wet. I will be hunting in kotzebue so dont know how deep the streams will be. i just want to be comfortabel when hunting and not have feet that hurt. What are your thoughts?

What type of hunt are you doing. Another idea is Simms waders with camo top if weight is not an issue. An Alaskan friend only uses those when hunting from his raft.

Me personally: I would want to hike in hip waders!

Hip boots are hot, I only used them for fishing. I hate hiking in them to far. Lacrosse ankle fit are the ones I use. Going to replace with Simms in the future

Set the cabelas tundra boots back and got the slip over hip booty for quick stream crossings. Super light weight and packable. I decided that way so I can still wear my comfortable kenetrek with gators and if needed I will just slip the wig guys on real quick
