I'm sure many of you have a Cabelas Club account, I do. I make sure to have a zero balance each month. Just got my new statement which is now frpm Capitol One. Nowhere on the statement does it show how many points I have accumulated. I knew there would be some changes as Bass Pro Shops took over, but this surprised me a little. Over the years I have earned enough points to get me some pretty nice equipment. I'm sure I can go on line and see what I have, guess I'll be using them asap as I foresee the "Cabelas Points" program disappearing.

The more and more that I am seeing what is happening to Cabela's from one end of them to the other the less I am doing business with them.

I have a pair of their boots and called customer service the other day about the stitching coming undone in a couple of places. Their canned response was that I would either need to send them to them on my dime to have them look at them or take them into a store and let them decide at their discretion of if they needed to be replaced or not. I tried to get their definition of normal wear and tear and no one would tell me what it is.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cabelas name totally disappear down the road in a few years. Remember Herters? I don't see much that I need to buy from them now. I can shop around on the internet and find almost everything I need. Certain things like shoes/boots I want to try on before I buy anyway.

You have to figure that Cabela's drove Gander Mountain out of the mail order business and I actually preferred Gander for a lot of things. It seamed that they had better quality than Cabela's but that is the way of business. My problem is that I am stuck in the middle a lot like CC. I can drive 120 miles one way to a Cabela's and Sportsman's or drive 120 miles the other way to the same stores plus Bass Pro. My biggest problem is that there is nowhere local for me to find a good selection of sporting goods and now that Sports Authority is gone even less.

That is one problem with living in a rural area that is ruled by the ski industry.

Page 1 of your statement. Middle of page right hand side blue box with a gray center. That's where it shows my points.

Also gander sold there catalog business to Cabela's. I believe they had to wait out their no compete clause.

My points are in the cabelas app.
I'm actually in the process of changing to a different card now. The sales aren't as good and the points building slower.
I've gotten over 2k in free stuff over the years including 2 new guns. But I can do better elsewhere now

I've used the points for years to buy some great gear. But now there are better options so I'm using an ebates card.
They send me a check every quarter for a %age of the purchases I make. My wife and I use it for any and all of the monthly expenses that we can (to build credit-$$) and pay it in full every month as we would if we are paying cash throughout the month. We usually get a check for $150-$200 every quarter that I can put in the bank and not have to use at any particular place. Best deal we've come across.

When Cabelas was bought things started to go down hill.

The Greenville SC store doesn't even have a bargain cave anymore.

As far as the credit card goes, my wife and I only use the cabelas card (Black) for major purchases from them if the math works out and something is on a REALLY good sale.

Get the capitol 1 venture 1 and your money will go MUCH further. Trust me.

My wife and I are slowly cutting ties from Cabelas. It pains me to say that. But its the smartest thing to do for us..

There was a time where I ran 40K/year through my Cabelas black card. Not anymore.

We use it to get money back in Amazon prime dollars and we order almost everything online. (clothes, hunting gear, food, toilet paper, cleaning supplies ect ect)

Its cheaper that way and it keeps me out of wal-mart (The one place I despise going )

Check it out. You might be surprised how much money you can save.

Several years ago I started to get rid of credit cards. I now have one, a Chevron card that I have had for 60 years that is used very rarely. Anytime I need plastic, it is my debit card that is used. I pay cash for almost everything in my day to day expenses. I do keep a money market account that I have a card for. When it comes to anything over 2000, it gets used. I just got tired of high interest if you had any carry over balance each month.

Forgot that I do have a Cabelas card that is expiring next month...zero balance. I did call them and told them not to send me a new one.

I'm doing the same thing Cowboy, getting rid of the Cabelas and may go with a Sportsman's warehouse Visa. Bass Pro blows.

Pretty much the same for me. At one time I did my entire Christmas shopping through Cabelas, just to get the points. Cancelled my Visa with them years ago. I'm so unhappy with our local Cabelas I only go there if I can't find it anywhere else. Also no more Bargin Cave here. It's 40 min. to Cabelas. 70 min to Sportsmans Warehouse......

Citi Double Cash 2% Cash back on everything. Simple and easy to accumulate.

Or look into the Ducks unlimited card. 5% cash back for sporting goods stores and gas and 1% everything else.

cabelas has to pay for them fancy stores somehow.

way I see it ,most anything can be bought elsewhere cheaper so those who claim to have gotten "free" stuff from cabelas , really never got any such thing.
you simply paid for the item long before you got the chance to enjoy it.
