Bulls in the Big Horns

I spent the first week of archery surrounded by elk this year. I was able to call in four separate bulls that hung up in deep cover or just out of range. The area that I was hunting had lots of dead fall and really thick young trees. I was hunting at about 9-10 thousand feet. I was unable to close the deal and am planning on coming back for rifle season. I was several miles back and the only other person I saw was camping with a dog. I guess my question is post rut and if the weather stays the same should I be able to still find elk at this location and elevation?

We all saw elk way up last year while deer hunting on October 15. Deer had moved down due to a snow a week earlier.
Also in 2012 saw lots of elk up high and picked up one nice 5x5. Saw many bulls that week it hadn't snowed yet.

If you are able to get there the elk most likely will still be there.

Man thanks for the info, I don't draw this area often enough to make a good decision about it. Normally hunt 36 and work the pressure. I just want to be able to get into them again. It's a tuff area to hunt but the pay off is huge.

The big bulls tend to disappear about the 10th of October, at least a different unit in the bighorns I hunt. Small bulls and cows usually still there. Just been my experience in last 15 years!

Is your elk tag valid for archery and rifle?

if weather stays the same and there is lil to no pressure on em , I would have to say the odds are pretty dang good they will still be around.

that said , elk will do what they will do and go where they will go.
