I bought deer tags for my nephew last year and did a bunch of scouting for the area we drew. He repaid me with an old Savage 111 30-06 that I had once offered to buy. I decided to build a budget, semi-custom hunting rifle with it.

I ordered a Shillen stainless match select, with heavy sporter contour, chambered in 6.5mm Creedmoor, along with a matching barrel nut, recoil lug, and misc tools.

I swapped the barrels, head-spaced the 6.5 to the action, and dropped it in a Bell & Carlson sporter stock.

I tuned up the accutrigger with a lighter spring and a homemade overtravel screw. I rebuilt the bolt with a spiral cut bolt body and new, upgraded extractor and ejector. I installed the scope off my Rem. 30-06 and shes ready to go.
