Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for bruised and cracked ribs. Long story short went over the handle bars of snowmobile. They are keeping me from exercising and I'm getting fat. September isn't that far away. They been cracked for about 3 weeks. Thanks everyone

Unfortunately rest/time is the only healer there. You probably already know this or the doc told you........even though it feels good to wrap them, don't. It restricts breathing and pneumonia starts to set in. Follow the exact instructions with the inhaler thing ( floating ball mechanism that measure air capacity and builds strength) Rest and that breather will get you on the road to recovery the fastest.

As far as exercising you are limited to mostly light lower body stuff....cant be stretching the upper body mass/tissue IMO. I'm not a Dr just seen some family members go through it. All the best.

Don't sneeze, cough or laugh!!!

Best thing to do as stated above is relax as you will need time to heal. Not much you can do with these and you don't want to push it and have more problems.

Been there...done that! There is one thing that will help healing....TIME. Everything you've been told id spot on. In another month you'll be back at it and you will still have at least 4 months for conditioning.

I broke a couple ribs and bruised a couple more back in November taking a fall getting to my elk. My feet went out from under me and I went down hard on my left side down low on my ribs. I lit on about a 12" tall 6" diameter stump that was just under the snow you could not see. All of my weight, pack, and rifle combined hit on my ribs without any breaking of the fall. I'm still a bit sore once in a while. Not bad, but I sure don't want someone squeezing me or hitting me there. It just takes time!

Oh man, cracked or bruised ribs seem to take forever to heal. Hopefully you'll be healed up by the time hunting season rolls around.

Thanks everyone. I understand that it takes awhile. My job doesn't allow me to sit around. I guess I'm just going to have to toughen up, lol.

For calcium supplement chew some tums. Or other brand of calcium carbonate. Probably no more than 4,000mg a day. Also need sunlight at least 15 minutes a day to absorb the calcium (vitamin D). Ribs take at least 2 to 4 months to completely heal. Not sure of your age, us older guys heal slower!! Time for a real serious diet. Maybe a stationary bicycle or if access to a pool just walking in the pool. Assuming indoors?? Keep it as low impact as you can for the near future. Good luck and God bless
