I just read through the previous thread on Mountain boots and didn't see much on my question so thought I'd try another angle. Has anyone tried the Danner Mountain boots such as the full curl or the mountain assualt? I wear danners for work and love the boots, but wasn't sure how this style holds up to the competition. Any help would be appreciated to help make my decision before I unload the cash on boots.

Yeah that could be very possible. I bought a new pair of Danner's in Nov and had to send them back by Feb because the sole was pealing off already. No questions asked though. I didn't know they had mountain boots until the other day so just wanted to check.

I personally have never owned a pair of Danner boots, but I have read a lot of negative reviews about certain models of Danner boots leaking and coming apart. I think they have some high end models that get good reviews, however.

Good Luck

I bought a pair of Danner Pronghorns from Lathrop and Sons with the Synergy footbeds package, and have had nothing but good to say about them. I put a good coat of Mink Oil on them and they stayed waterproof for me, even through some creek crossings. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good pair?

I cant speak for danner products, but after years of buying less expensive boots I broke down and bought a pair of Meindl Denalis. 100% worth the money imo. Ive got a lot of use out of them over the past 2 years and they are still as sturdy and waterproof as the day I bought them.

I had good luck with them in the past, but now that I have gone to the high end boots I won't ever go back.

I've talked to some expert boot care guys and they backed up the fact that Danner has cheapened up their boots over the years. Too bad, too because they used to be really good. I've had a lot of luck with the higher end brands now like Kenetrek, Lowa, Zamberlan, and Crispi. I've never tried Meindl, but have always heard great things about them.

I know a guy that went through four pairs of Danners in the same amount of time that he wore out only one pair of Hanwags. Stepping up the higher level of boots is definitely worth it in the long run.

Ive got a buddy who all he will wear is the danner pronghorn. And he chukar hunts alot and walks alot and a majority is in the rocks and he will go through a pair and a half each year he also wears them as his everyday boots but he told me they do wear out easily but he likes them all because of how lightweight they are.

Well bit the bullet today and bought a pair of Kenetrek's. Not bad for weight and feel very comfortable. Hopefully they work well for me.

This likely comes down to personal preference, how hard you use them, and maybe a little luck.

I've got something along the lines of 6 pairs of boots in service, of various thickness and construction.
My lightly used Meindl (Denalis I think) boots that are about 5 years old have some cracking on the rubber on the upper.
My lightweight pronghorns are about done and six years old, but are still certainly wearable.
Actually my best wearing (and most used) are a 7 year old pair of cabelas outfitter series.

I just picked up a new pair of Pronghorns for this season. (my lighter weight sneaker type Danners are crap and didn't make it through even a light season). I don't know if I'd spring for the Meindl Denalis based on my experience.

They might be better now than the model I have.

I found some Zamberlain boots on sale in November before a late season archery deer hunt. I put them on and didn't have a single problem. No leaks and no blisters. Several days of rain and a bunch of rugged country for deer and hogs, still in great shape with no visible wear.
