Hi Folks-

Looking for ideas on hunting the Bob Marshall Wilderness in 2019 w/ my rifle.

I plan on retiring this spring (2019) so for the first time I should be able to commit time for scouting/hunting and not just my usual prescribed vacation allotment.

I live just east of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, south of Missoula so the lower end of the Bob trailheads are less than a two hour drive. I also have my own mules both riding and packing.

Looking for areas/ideas that are good areas to pack into from a trailhead and hunt from foot or with the stock once camp is set - up.

Thanks - Dave

I have no advice but just wanted to comment.
I worked for an outfitter doing summer trips on the Bob when I was a kid. Over 30 years ago. Beautiful country.
Camped on top the chinese wall .
Good luck with your adventure

Thanks Hunter25- Since I live south of the Bob I would prefer a trailhead on the south side but up for anything at this point.

Since you are retiring this spring, that means that you will have the opportunity to make some summer pack trips into the Bob. That will make for a better start for you in the fall than most of us can do. Good luck

Whenever I see 'Bob Marshall', for some reason, immediately an image of Bob Ross, painting away at light speed, whispering words of wisdom comes into view and I just crack up! [emoji23]
Ok. I stopped laughing. I can breathe again.

Sorry for this diversion! I know its a beautiful area that has been treasured by hunters for generations.

The Bob is overrated. Wolfs and grizz. Hunted the middle fork this year. Way more wolfs. Seen no deer or elk. If I was set up like you I would look at the extreme south west down by the border for elk

I worked for the forest service all through the Bob. Especially the southern part you're talking about. There's a few localized spots that are still decent hunting but between the outfitters, wolves and griz, the ungulates get pounded. Not as good as it used to be at all. DM me I have some areas in mind you could check out.
