I killed a nice 3x3 blacktail and its body was big. My brother and I had real struggles getting it into the back of our Razor.(all the Mulies that we have got we could get it in the back with no fuss) so I'm guessing it was about 180 lbs. then once he was skinned we put him in the back of the truck and it was very heavy still! So what is the average blacktail weight? And what is your bigger deer weight?

It kinda depends where you are at. Where I grewup on the CA coast south of the bay area I would say average would about 135 field dressed. I did kill 1 that we weighed at 180 and 1 other i think was close to that but I didnt weigh him. They were both older deer. If you go north up the coast more the deer are smaller and I would guess not much over 100 or so.

I killed a really heavy one this year carcass weight was 135 pounds (no head hide or guts). Biggest one I have seen. On the other hand I would say average weight hanging is more like 75-110 pounds on a mature buck. At least the area I am from I know other regions are different.

In California Area B-2, my largest Blacktail weighed 178 pounds live weight (before field dressing). This year I killed my smallest Blacktail, a 4 x 4 at 140 pounds. That deer should have weighed 165+ pounds but the drought, shortage of feed and wildfires have taken a toll on the CA deer this year.

Mature deer should weigh between 140-160 lbs on the hoof. I've taken two blacktails over 200lbs. If the bucks can grow old they get big!

I rarely see anything up here in n w Oregon that would break 150 lb live weight,{that would be a whopper here},in fact most would run 100lb on average, I would think with many much less than that.spikes and forkys run approx. 80-100lbs here.

I've only weighed one of the many if killed, it was my second largest and he weighed 165 gutted. The biggest would have been in the 180 range, these two were bigger than average for sure. I shot them both in the early 90's near Gates, back when clear cuts were full of food.

One I killed here in Washington was exactly the same, 135#, carcass only. No guts, head, hide or hooves. He had the narliest rack I've ever seen. 3x4 main frame with over 20 more scoreable points over an inch long. I left the rack hanging on my back patio to be magotized before sending it in to the taxidermist and some ba$$turd stole it!! Six foot fence all the way around the yard, the only way you could see it was standing on my very private deck!

I used to hunt the Gates area. My son took one in the mid 80s that was same, 165 gutted. I saw one that went 189 killed about 78 or 79. Area is known for good bucks.

Bergmann's rule suggests larger body sizes in colder climates, which usually relates to Latitude, among closely related animals. Ones that share a common lineal ancestor, as I understand it. Bring in an outlier, from outside the family tree, things can change. There are plenty of subspecies among deer, last I looked not even biologists fully agreed on them all. So there is a good possibility, in the case MM described, that it is some local or regional variation to the family tree. Or maybe poor quality forage or ?

These two bucks were taken 20 miles apart one lived at 1000 feet elevation the other lived at 3800 feet elevation. The buck that came from 3800 feet probably weighed 50-80lb more then the lower elevation buck.
