Mine and his (the one we used) has a carbon fiber frame. I think it is probably 2 different parts, but have only seen it put together. The bag can be loosened and separated from the frame enough to put a large chunk of meat,(1/2 deer, 1/4 elk) in then pull the tethers back tight again. It work really well and was plenty rigid to carry comfortably.You are able to pack meat decently using the pack itself? I was under the impression you had to buy a meat shelf add on to it. Or did you just stuff it into the pack itself?

Also does the 1850 mean that pack holds 1850 cubic in?
That said, looking at the link you posted, must be just the bag. I think the bag, frame etc. that my son got me, is closer to $300.00 unfortunately!
I do think the 1850 is a reference to the space the bag will hold though. Which is just right for a day pack to me. Hope this helps, Good luck.
