I am going to try and find a load for my 7-08 for mule deer and 7 mag for elk.

I am thinking the 120 for muleys and the 150 for elk? Or just I jump to the 140 and 160?

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks

I use the TTSX. In the 7mm-08, either the 120 or 140 is fine for deer. If you use the 140, I'd use it for elk too. With the 7mm Mag, 140, 150, 160, what ever it likes best will work fine for elk.

I've gone to the 145 LRX in my 280 and it has worked great. Opens at a lower MV, which is especially attractive in a 7mm-08, when considering x bullets. X bullets work best when pushed fast and most drop down a size in weight for this reason in moderate calibers.

My Tikka 7 Rem Mag likes TTSX 140. I shoot everything with 140, from antelope to moose, it looks like a little bit big for small animals but I got used to it and dont want to switch between loads. Last year I got 12 dead animals with 12 shots, only two elks needed second shots because we were not sure if the first shot placement was good.

I began using 120 ttsx in 7mm-08 about 5 years ago beacause my then 10 year old son was recoil shy. To make a long story short he has killed black bear, many white tails, 1 mule deer and an antelope the bullet performed flawlessly every time. Too light for elk in my opinion but great bullet for deer sized game.

I'm a fan... used 85gr TSX on antelope....

I'd probably just go with the 140 and use it for both.

I prefer 1 bullet for everything.

The daughter of a good friend of mine, killed a 9'+ brown bear with her 7mm-08 and a 140 TSX. One shot, passed through the bear and was recovered on the skin on the far side shoulder. The recovered bullet looked like it should be in a Barnes advertisement. Stout enough for me!

Oh yes I agree. 140 for the 7mm-08 and a 160 for the 7Mag I think is the best ballistic match is what I was getting at.
It's a great bullet.
