Badger hunting

I need some advise with Badgers. I have found two separate areas were I know there are badgers living. I've seen one about 3 months ago crossing the road but wasn't hunting at the time and didn't have a gun.

So how should I go about getting one of the dudes? Sit in the mornings and evenings and wait to see if they come out of their hole? Bait? Distress calls, like rabbit, squeaker, lure scents?

lmao. Thats pretty funny! In my experience with them they are an animal you rarely see. I did kill 1 once. Rode by a hole on 4wheeler and saw its head in the hole. Jumped off and stuck the 22-250 in the hole and shot it! I have seen a few others on chance encounters. I think they are fairly nocturnal and that is why you dont see them alot.

Got a co-worker that has dispatched quite a few with a shovel, that was a good watch with the sheet though!

That was a cool video Bitterroot Bulls. There were a few times in the clip I thought that guy going after the badger would, "Soar No More" and get bit. I'm sure the farmer was glad to see that critter go away. I've never see a badger in the wild. That was pretty cool.

Mornings and evenings will give you better odds but they may come out anytime. I've killed a few with a shovel and I must say it takes commitment. When I was in school me and a friend of mine took about a dozen out of a hayfield that had been let go and the new manager wanted to reclaim and plant. Never tried calling or baiting we just spent 15 to 30 minutes a day morning and night watching the area for the summer. If you haven't been around them much be ready for the stink. They don't spray out like a skink but they can make an area smell worse.

Badgers are more nocturnal but I have shot quite a few while trapping them in Idaho during the middle of the day. Badgers were a good money maker for my business and I would regularly see them at all times of day. Plus they like ground squirrels as bait. Pretty cool animals; I call them mini grizzly bears.
