B Zone

Looks like it sold out the earliest ever this year on 7/19. Next year I will be putting it down as my second choice to make sure I get one. I know many who live in the zone did not get a tag this year. Not sure what is going to happen if anything from G&F with the unit and the growing demand to hunt pure blacktails. I've heard many ideas on what can be done and have some of my own.

1. could make it a draw unit
2. could limit only 1 tag per hunter
3. make archery and rifle separate

What do you guys think should or will be done by G&F?

I cant imagine people who live there don't get a tag. Getting caught flat footed. If it is third choice youll get it in first go round.
1. X zone/ LE
2. C zones
3. B zone/ D3-5

Shouldn't be a draw for sure.
I like being able to get 2 tags in the state. Maybe one tag per area; get a b tag but have to have a separate area for your second tag like an X or D or A or something.

I found this in the CA regs:

PREMIUM DEER TAGS
Any hunt that filled on or before the first business day after July 1, of the previous year is a premium deer hunt. Premium deer hunt tags are issued through the Big Game Drawing.

If the trend continues this will happen next year most likely. So looks like it may be a draw very soon unless they change the regs.

 

[B&C Blacktails]

B zones are getting hammered too many tags too little deer.

Here are my thoughts;

Selfishly keep it the way it is, as I like to hunt in almost every b zone unit. Also I love taking two Blacktails a year.


Ethically divide the b zones into separate units to apply for individually and only allow one b tag.

California could really improve it's deer herds with proper management.

all zones will be premium before too long at this rate unless habitat is improved and predators are managed. Highly unlikely as we now have wolves to accompany cats.
