I've finally decided too hunt elk in Arizona but I am at a loss as far as what units to look at as I've never hunted AZ and Ill be hunting by myself. I only have one Preference Point and am looking for a rifle hunt, or even muzzle loader if thats an option. Id really just like to fill the freezer. I would sincerely appreciate the help!

In what year are thinking of doing this? All the draw results are published so check out the general area you wish to hunt and should be able to find an area you will draw.

To late to hunt this year, and with only 1 point, your options will be limited. When you do decide to enter the drawing, I have had great luck drawing in 7East, Large unit with alot of different types of hunting. Alot of elk, tags and hunters. Great Road Access, so being a solo hunter will not hurt you very much. If you are up to it, you should also look at the Peaks Hunt. A smaller mostly wilderness hunt in 7East. The wilderness area is very manageable and not overly remote. A solo hunter in reasonable shape can pack an elk out in a full day of work. Most tags for this hunt are for any elk, making a bull possible. You will have to work to find elk but they are there. If you end up drawing this hunt in the future, let me know.

You can subscribe to AZFG to get emails. They will update you with news about hunting AZ including upcoming draw info/dates.

In the woods.
there are several cow elk hunts to choose from and probably no too difficult to draw a non-res tag. Get in touch with me January 2017 and I'll give you some idea's one that instantly comes to mind is my backyard. :D

Thank you for the detailed info! Ill look into those units. I plan on this being my first elk hunt and don't readily anticipate this to go smoothly as this with likely be more of a crash course.
