ca, unfortunately!!!!
Well guys, i drew a Bull elk tag for units 62,64,66-68. I have the early archery tag. Aug 16th-31st.......most likely no rut, However, very minimal pressure and relaxed elk, hopefully. Very happy, but overwhelmed right now. It's just a huge area, my first priority is to simply narrow it down to a zone if possible. Any suggestions or perspective is very, very much appreciated. PM's, post, i'm all ears. Thanks.

What kind of hunting are you going to be doing? Are you a big hiker in good shape? 6 has a lot of different Elk terrain, from moderate to very rugged.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's a very good feeling as my hopes, and prayers have been answered. I plan on staying as mobile as possible, hiking and packing in. I'm not sure if i want to set up a big camp and have to be stuck/walk back every night. So i'm leaning towards drop camping wherever i'm at every night.

I think scouting will be key in this area. Its a big area and the elk are pretty scattered in relatively low density's for the size of the area. There are also very few places where you can get over a mile from an ATV trail. Its a good hunt but you will have to put alot of time into it or be very lucky. This is all based on my research, I have not hunted it myself. Good Luck on your hunt!!

Musket man speaks the truth; entire herds can be swallowed up by the terrain.

062 late (deer) in the Independence mountains is an awesome hunt.
