Leaving for Colorado for a backpacking bow hunt in about 3 weeks and still haven't decided on a unit. Anyone have anything to share on unit 28? Any help is appreciated, can't wait to get out there.

Ive hunted Unit 28 in the past. We hunted just south of Ute Peak. We always bivouacked for 7 days. Saw some nice bulls and stuck one but never found it. Not the best unit I've hunted but we found elk every time. If your willing to go in deep pm me and I'll get the maps out and fill you in for what I know.
Unit 28 can produce some nice bulls if you are willing to work. I've hunted the unit several times. Be willing to bust you but. The area I hunted was steep and nasty. The beetle kill has been horrible causing a lot of blow down. be VERY CAREFUL when sellecting you camping spot. When that wind picks up, you don't want to be camped under a dead tree. Find an open area or stand of aspen trees to camp in. The drainage I normally hunted was nasty. Therefore, I didn't have to deal with many hunters. However, it is public land and others do hunt that area. There was an outfitter working that area a few years ago, but I don't recall his name.
