anyone here used the Kuiu ultra 3000

looking at this pack for a hunt in WY early season archery elk hopefully in 2016. planning on setting a base camp up and spike out from there a few nights at a time
been looking at the Kuiu line a lot and was wondering if any one had an opinion on the pack

Take a look through some older threads using the search function, there has been a lot of talk on the Ultras and Icon Pros since they came out. I have the Ultra 6000 and love it. I could have been ok with the 3000 but decided the extra space was worth it even if I didn't need it every time. It cinches down real nice for a day pack.
As far as the Ultra in general, they are just so damn light yet feel so sturdy. The fabric seems light but I feel it is a lot more durable than you might think and the frame is solid as a board yet comfortable as hell. The awesome thing about the whole system is that if you decide you wanted to go larger or smaller from the 3000 you can just buy the bag for cheap and throw it on the frame, you can also put an Icon Pro bag on it as well. At some point I will buy the Pro 1850 bag for my day hunts, you can't beat being able to change packs for $99.

The amount of extra space you get with the load sling no matter which bag you have on is amazing. Being able to add 2500ci right up against your back was the selling point for me.

I think the Icon Pro frame comes with a better waist belt from what I have heard though if you were also thinking of going the Pro route and adding an Ultra bag.

I will be putting mine to the test come Nov 21 on a 10 day elk hunt. So far it's only been on a couple of deer hunts as a day pack.

I absolutely will. I am so pumped on this hunt it's driving me nuts!! (NV bull tags are few and far between, maybe twice, 3 times max in a lifetime for a general bull even for a resident)

A friend and I bought 2 ultra6000 this year. Yes they are very light. I killed a bull elk in ID and we had some very heavy packs. I had the ultra 6000 he had his just one from eberlestock when we got out to the trail head I switched pack just to compare the two, we both had over a hundred pounds in each. The just one was much more comfortable and made the load feel lighter then the kuiu. I would say that I would much rather pack the extra 4lbs for the comfort. He has since sent the 6000 that he bought back.

another option to look at would be the blacks creek pack line up,,,they are a touch heavyer,but they are very heavy duty in fabric and construction,,,I just got mine,very comfortable,,made in Idaho,not overseas,,I got the "mid size,3000 c i pack",but you can sandwitch heavy stuff on the frame,then reattach the pack back on easy.look forward to my next trip out next week to try it out

I have the ultra 6000 and i like it for the most part. I packed out around 60lbs early this deer season and it wasnt as comfortable as I was hoping for. I love the bag design and the weight for just backpacking but when it comes to real heavy loads Im not that impressed. I think next year Im going to buy the Ico Pro 1850 and then put the ultra 6000 bag on the Ico Pro frame, then keep the 1850 bag for day hunts. I think that will be a perfect setup for me.
