Was just curious if there was any other fireman on here that had both passions. Hunting and fighting fire. I have been a volunteer fireman for 6 years and wouldn't trade it for anything. We average 180 to 200 calls a year and we don't do medical calls either.

Hello Brothers, I work here in California for Alameda County Fire and have 7 years on with them. I also have 5 more years with another Department. Total of 12 years paid and 3 years volunteer. I love my job, but I love hunting more. I hunt rifle and archery. I love deer hunting but am trying to do an elk hunt but don't know where to start. Putting in for New Mexico elk and if that doesn't work out i'll be chasing Blacktails here in cali. Drhorsrpower soory you got laid off. We will be hiring next year.... stay safe

I might be putting in an app so put in a good word! I'm with you, job ranks high but family and hunting comes above.

I would say put in for every western state if you want to elk hunt. It might be a while to draw a tag with the exception of ore, co, Id with OTC tags but it's an OTC hunt, can be great and visa versa. Good luck bubba.

Ive been a career firefighter for 12 years here in North Dakota, and another 3 years with a service in South Dakota. Also volunteer with my hometown fire dept.
Our work schedule is very condusive to hunting and fishing, as we work 24 hours shifts, 10 days/month. Could never go back to M-F 8-5 schedule.

Hey guys, I have been Working for CAL FIRE for 4 season down in Sonoma County. I love my job cuz most of the time i get to spend it outdoors. It gets you in great shape for deer season, and once the season ends, what do you know duck season starts.

Haha. Yeah when I worked blm, and single, I hunted ducks almost every day! Life was awesome. I killed a buttload of ducks that season.

@ ffd. The schedule is awesome. I was on light duty for a couple months and 8-5 killed me from coming from a 24 hr assignment. I love the schedule.

Benhuntin, what station are you working at. I worked St. Helena for a season (2001). I have a few friends that work in LNU.
