Thinking of trying to draw this tag for the 2019 season.

As anyone been out there recently? Trophy quality, numbers, public land?

Thank you.

Was it 9 in the regular? I'm on my phone and can't see the draw odds easily.

I noticed that this year with the price increase, a lot of units had a large difference in the amount of points required to draw in the regular vs. special draw. My unit this year took 3 in the regular, but could be drawn 3rd choice in the special.

I expect the gap to narrow back up in the next couple of years, once people see what they can get with the extra $$ for the special tag.

Good luck if you go for it, I can't imagine having a bad Wyoming pronghorn hunt in a unit with that much public land!

2018 area 96 type 1 ANY ANTELOPE 3 tags given out in the NR special draw
<7 preference points was 100.00% chance
6 preference points was 0.00% chance
3 points won't even get you a sniff in 96.

Non res with special draw it takes 3 points.
in the 2017 NR special draw there were two people who put in with a combined 11 preference points (5.5 each) 100% draw.
There were 2 more who had 3 preference points, and only 1 of them drew. Thus the 3 preference point draw was only 50%.
And 1 more applicant who had less than 3 PP's and did not draw.
Total of only 5 applicants in the NR special draw

This year was a much different story. Total of 51 applicants, up from 5 last year.
3 applicants with between 6-7 PP's, 100% draw.
48 applicants with less than 6 PP's 0% draw

It would appear that one of the publications must have promoted this unit to cause a huge jump in apps like that.

I think price increases have contributed to the application bump. Fear of prices rising higher put a lot of people in a position to evaluate how long they wanted to play the game. Points only people cashing in.
