Antelope Trip 2012 - DIY Trophy Antelope

I am currently reading Mike Eastman's DIY Trophy Antelope and it is answering a lot of questions I have regarding my first antelope hunt I am trying to put together for myself in Wyoming for the 2012 season. I am currently a student in college, so my hunting trips are severely limited in how long they can be.

If I scouted a little bit beforehand, would arriving at my area Friday night, hunting Saturday and Sunday and then leaving give me a realistic chance of harvesting an antelope? I do not want to plan this hunt if two days of hunting won't give me a decent chance. Mike Eastman says to allow as much time as possible, so is two days enough?

Rifle or bow?

I would be hunting with a rifle.

I would think that 2 days of hunting would give you a very reasonable shot at an antelope(maybe not an 80 incher), depending on what unit you apply for.

Also depends on pressure. I think two days is plenty, unless they've had a lot of lead thrown their way.

Two days can be plenty of time to get a goat. You may not be able to be as selective as you want to though. Sometimes it takes awhile to find that one special goat.

My dad and I went after antelope a couple of years ago and only hunted 3 days. We had no problem getting shots. On the other hand we fell way short in the trophy department. If you just want the experience and a good time 2 days is enough. It will definitely make you want to come back though. If you are going for a trophy I would plan on spending 5-7 days hunting. Thanks for all the help! Its gonna be my first hunt for antelope, so a trophy would be nice but its not my main concern.

In that case....you won't have a problem getting on some nice goats. It will be a blast!

If you intend to hunt in 2012, buy a preference point by Sept. 30, giving you a chance to draw an area with better access, a license for a time when the bucks are less spooked(type 1 vs. type 2), and perhaps better bucks, depending on the winter.
