Dropping a line here to say Hello from SE South Dakota.

Get out as much as possible to enjoy all that South Dakota has to offer: Deer, Turkey, Pheasant, Fishing, etc.

I came across the site looking for info on Montana Elk Hunting. A group of friends and I have decided to try our hand at the Montana General Elk season.

I will be digging through as much of the forums over the next 6-7 months to learn as much as possible about the Big Sky state as we have a lot to learn

Thanks ahead of time for any input.

I was in Yankton last October for paddlefish. Drew another tag this may for pierre. I hear good things about Montana elk, never been but a guy I work with buys a special tag every year and seems to fill it. Lots of good info on here to find.

SoDak native in OK, good luck. Assume you are putting in for the SD tags.
I am putting in for the SD Elk tags, no luck yet on the tag. My brother in-law drew and filled a Prarie Unit Elk tag last year. Pretty cool to see one from South Dakota

Great opportunities for paddlefish down here in Yankton. I have never gone up river for them, curious to hear how that goes.

Welcome to the forum! Do you hunt the snow goose migration? I would have been out your way last week, but the geese flew thru!

I have never done much water fowl hunting. Something that I have always wanted to, just never have.

I live 6-miles outside of Yankton and the field across the the road from my house was white with all the snow and blues moving through. I sat on my drive way with a beer every evening for a week and watched group after group move through wondering why I don't hunt them!

My brother has drawn two over the years. 2 smaller 6 x 6 bulls to show for it, one archery and one was the prairie tag. Dad had the rifle tag about 5 years ago. Missed a monster, settled for a 5 x 5. He had an archery tag two years ago and didn't fill...but didn't hunt much either, not for lack of opportunity. Dad also had his CSP tag, but that was 30 years ago. shot a spike.

We have very limited elk in OK. I have about 20 years preference....and counting.

Keep applying, you'll draw eventually.
