In addition to the big fire going north of Durango near Purgatory Ski Resort, another one started yesterday near the headwaters of bear Creek. It is in the Gold Run/WindyGap area. I live about 20 miles sw of there and it is smoky as hell here. The smell woke me up tonight. Everything is so dry, we have had 4 or 5 lightning fires in the last couple of weeks. Luckily all were small and are now out. When the monsoons really start, we could have some real problems with the lightning.

The Bear Creek fire is in GMU 73 and the Purgatory fire is in GMU 74.
I'm going back to bed..................

We have had our first fire. Started by guys shooting in the desert.

All the spring rains have grown a huge amount of fuel.

There is talk of the usfs putting stage 3 in place for some parts of the state...

Stage 3 means the closure of public lands and roads..

We just had one started yesterday northwest of the Wolcot area. For those who know the unit it is the south east corner of unit 35. I haven't seen any reports but it may be under control. I might have to take a drive up that direction.

Supposedly the sheriff office is looking for 3 people that were seen leaving the area.

If you know the area it is right across from 4 Eagle Ranch and a little to the south. The evacuated the subdivision last night but looking for reports from the Eagle County Sheriff's office they may have a handle on it already.

The 416 fire north of Durango doubled in size last night, now almost 17 K acres. Those of you that are familiar with GMU 74, the fire is just north of Hermosa Creek, between there and Purgatory Ski Resort. Pretty nasty fire and it will be awhile until they get a handle on it. Sure hope it stays on the Durango drainage side.

The incident management team that took the fire over is from my area. I know the deputy ic personally who said the fire will probably get to over 65,000 acres. They will try to keep it away from homes first, this generally means pushing towards wilderness and public land areas. I turned down an assignment on the fire due to family vacation next week.

We had a little snow in my neck of the woods, it didn't stick but it did snow - so far we're in better shape than last year.

Saw that in the news over a month ago. Seems like a waste. We don't need aircraft on static display looking pretty.

Lake Christine swa at Basalt started burning yesterday evening. 0% contained this morning.
Allegedly started by tracer rounds at the shooting range.

I work 4 miles away, still dark but very hazy out.
