After shooting steel out to 900 yds today, I concluded my 168 vlds are going 2725 fps, not 2800fps on my .280 REM. Either way, after I get my zero stop CDS turret ordered I'll be able to dial up to 700 yds with1300 ft lbs of energy.

Thanks for the update Troy. I'm getting 3075fps out of my 162 SST from my 7mmag.
Nice to see real world results and not listings on the side of the ammo box. :)

Thanks to you my friend for the assistance!
Hahaha, I always say my advice is worth what you are paying for it, and we all know what opinions are like... But you are very welcome, glad you are happy with the rifle and ammo selections. Should serve you well for many seasons.

I hope to christen it this fall with plenty of western tags!

Thanks for shared experience all. 😉 It helps to know others have sealed the deal on elk with the .280. Sometimes we can over think these things and make things harder than they need to be. Sounds like if I do my part, the .280 will be up to the task.

(I still want that 300 Weatherby Mag-someday-does it come with a shoulder replacement? lol 😆)

Never let it be said anyone on here tried to talk you out of a new rifle!
