Hey everyone... looking for a little help for a buddy of mine. Unfortunately while I sit here typing this, he's in Elk camp enjoying the good life. However, he isn't seeing any bulls w/ the exception of a spike. All I know at this point is that he's hunting up on Elk mountain somewhere. I wish I could be up there with him, but unfortunately, the work-thing once again interferes....

He said he's going to check out the (Jarbidge) wilderness area soon, but is a bit hesitant due to the # of other hunters/outfitters and his lack of stock. He also said there's a couple feet of snow in the upper elevations.

He's not entirely picky at this point and any advice anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Jarbridge can hold a lot of bulls. There will be other hunters but it can't hurt to try a new area if he hasn't seen much.

Thx guys! I was telling him the same thing, but it's great to hear you guys confirm!

I'll be sure to post some pics if he's able to find a bull he's willing to pull the trigger on. Thx again!!!

If he's not seeing anything or any sign it is time to move.
I second nv-hunter about checking out the country along the west side of 072 and Mary's River. It is some steep country but there are elk there. We have seen lots of elk sign there over the years. The rough country does keep a lot of hunters from going there.
If he decides to move you might let him know that the road traveling south out of the little town of Jarbidge has a section about a mile long with an 16% incline and it may not be passable right now.
If he wants to stay on the east side, hunting west from the Wildcat Guard Station towards the Mary's River can also be good.

Thx for all the info, guys. Just heard back from him that he headed home on Sunday w/out filling his tag. However, it sounds like he'll be back this next weekend. Hoping the "war party" will give me permission to go, or that I can find a way to send her shopping for the weekend:). Sounds like he's open to checking out the area's you mentioned above. Again, I'll keep you all posted. Thx again for the advice!!!

The cows and calves seem to spread out and head for the desert. The bulls definitely head for the wilderness area during hunting season. I was hunting 72 a few years ago near Cow Creek. We met some dairy farmers from Fallon. There were 8 guys, 3 wall tents, 5 ATVs and 4 horses but only one tag.

Several of the guys started hiking into the wilderness area every day and they came out with stories of seeing 20 bulls, 40 bulls in one day. They had pictures on the cell phone. Then one night they are all drinking whiskey. The farmer shot a freakishly huge bull that scored 409 1/2. They field dressed him and left him until the next morning and went back in with the horses to pack him out.
