Just thought I’d weigh in. I’m a bow hunter but do use a rifle every now and then. My kids are getting old enough to hunt so I purchased a 6.5 CM last spring. My daughter is 12 and just put her elk tag on an animal at 125 yds. From a bow hunter standpoint the 6.5 is plenty if you are smart about shot placement/angles and learn to shoot. She has been in a biathlon program the last two winters and can shoot well. She also shot almost 200 rounds through It over the summer. The key to any weapon is being confident, staying within your abilities and making wise choices. Definitely a bigger caliber makes up for mistakes but not all.
The 6.5 CM is a blast to shoot and I plan on taking it on next deer hunting trip.

I've been talking out of both sides of my mouth in this thread mainly because i don't have any practical experience hunting elk yet . However i have now officially killed a few critters with my 6.5. 😁 ( yes that feels good ) I have also killed a ton with my bows over the years . I can honestly saw ive never had a hole in an animal like the one i had on my antelope doe . I know a lot of people kill elk with a bow .I realize that an elk is probably 8 times the size but it was still impressive 20201002_144857.jpg20201002_144854.jpg
