4 season tent worth the extra wieght?

For the last two years I have been hunting in the high country in late November for mule deer in Montana. I have been setting up my wall tent & hunting from there.

This year I am going to be backpacking in by myself to an even more remote location. I have been looking at 2 man 4 season tents & wondering if they are really worth the extra weight.

Would a good 3 season tent hold up to conditions?? (last two years up there it snowed 2 feet & was very windy.)

I have a couple 3 season tents from Big Agnes and they hold up well enough in a bit of wind, but the structure of the tents are not made to hold up to the added weight of a lot of snow. I have a Cabelas and a North Face 4-season that I take whenever I expect snow, and 4-season tents are made to help better insulate you as well. If you are expecting a couple feet of snow as in years past you are still going to need to try and keep you tent reasonably free from snow. That much weight on top of any tent could cause serious problems. Especially if you are back in a ways.

So yes, if you are expecting snow, definately take your 4-season. You will be much better protected from the elements, especially the snow. Even with the added protection it is still a good idea, if it is snowing, to wake up periodically and knock the snow off the walls of the tent.

I know it isn't the comfy option, but if your alone a bivy sac is great in bad weather. Get one of the ones with a hoop in the head part so you have some room to move around at night. Take a bivy and a little tarp and you can deal with any weather you will find. Downside is the lack of space inside.

Would definitly go with the four season tent if your dealing with that much snow, 3 season's could handle the wind and rain. only downside to the 4 season is they get alot of condensation inside and are heavier.

I was using a cheap Sierra Desings 1 man and just switched to what I feel will be a much better Hilleberg AKTO... We shall see this year up in the high country how it works out but from all the reviews I have read, it is worth every cent and worth the weight...

Ya graylight let me know how it works as well, I would like to invest in an Akto but didn't know if it was worth the extra lbs for a one man tent, let me know how much room it has for your gear and bow if there is much room to move around

This is going to be my next tent. Ive done a lot of research and know people who use this particular tent and its been nothing but positive reviews. The only down side is it is spendy, but that's it.
