Guys im looking for input on 300 weatherby loads, 9 years ago I had a buddy load me up 4 boxes of ammo and im down to the last box and a half. Ive really been careful not to waste these. But with this fall coming up and planning to head back to Wyoming im considering going with an over the counter brand that I wont feel as bad to shoot a bunch this spring and summer. I figured by the time hunting would come around id be needing these reloaded again and im not sure with his age if he would/could do it anymore. Any input on this would be appreciated. Hornaday is what im sort of leaning towards instead of the insanely priced weatherby brand. Thanks. Luke

I would find out what his load recipe is and if he doesn't feel like loading any for you then go down to your local gun shop and ask around. Someone else might be willing to do it for you.

With the .300 Weatherby you can pick from a lot of manufactures. If I remember right Remington, Hornady, Norma, and Barnes have factory loaded ammo for it. In the original factory offerings Weatherby used Hornady bullets in their loads and actually still do in their lower cost rounds. But the premium bullet bug has bit them and that is the big reason you see the prices up to $100 and above for them.

I would do what JimP suggested. Get the load details and find someone else to load them. Not sure of your area but there's a small gun shop near me that loads their own ammo and will load custom stuff as well if they are given the load details.

Mine loved H-1000(don't remember how much off hand) with a 180 grain bullet. The next batch will have ELD-X bullets in them.

My Lazerguard loves 84.5grs of IMR 7828 at an OAL of 3.555 pushing 180gr Accubonds. Mess with the oal as seating depth seems to make a difference in each rifle. Getting about 3160 out of it with a 24" barrel.

Thanks for the input, I do have all the load details from my guy. I think I am going to bump up to the 180 grain as opposed to the 165 grain that he loaded me with last time. This year will be deer but next year should for bull elk and maybe the little extra weight would come in handy. I did take a hard look at the ELDX. My recipe used the H 4831, don't know what the hell that means but that's what the tag reads, 82 grains of powder, 165 grain rem psp, velocity is 3100 at the muzzle. Shot great.

You don't say what you are hunting....elk or deer.

I shoot a .300 Wby for elk/moose and I use a 180 gr Nosler Partition. Weatherby's are not real easy to load for as they have a lot of freebore. I have a custom rifle with a commercial Mauser action & a Shilen Match SS barrel. I had my gunsmith reduce the freebore.
My load is 86.5 gr Reloader 25 & the 180 gr Nosler Partition, MV is 3015.

I hunt both with this same gun and load.

A little late to the game here,
Been trying to get my 300wby to shoot the 212gr ELDX and getting decent results with 74.5 gns of IMR7828ssc, settled with COAL of 3.65.
I'm getting sub-MOA which is ok for hunting, not quite as good as my pet loads using H1000 & 210gr Bergers.
Appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you for posting that train count! I am going to be doing the same for my .300 WBY

I need to correct my ELDX recipe. It's 74.5grs IMR7828ssc.
The 86gr H1000 is my 210gn VLD berger loads
I'm going to try the H1000 real soon.
Let me know how yours turn out

I only load 180 gr Nosler Partitions in my .300 Wby, so my work and data is probably no good for anything you guys are doing.
I ran the 180 partitions for years, one of the best bullets out there.
Had my gun re-barreled a few years back and couldn't get the same groups, so went to the heavier/ higher BC pills and my gun seems to like them.
