Here's the deal... I have been working up a load for my 338 RUM with the 250 gr. NAB and have been getting good results with H-1000. The only bad part is, (1 they're a bit pricey and (2 I can't find them anywhere! Elk season is approaching very quickly and I need to get my act together. I'd like to stick with 250 grains, so the GK has caught my attention, but I have a few questions before I go that route:

-How is the on game performance? (Looking for something with high weight retention)

-Will they fly as true as other bullets with hollow points and plastic tips?

-Will they deform in the magazine?

I've never used Sierra bullets; have any of you had any experience with them?

I have used them in my 270 WSM. They were more than enough for big mule deer bucks, I wouldn't have been afraid to shoot an elk with them cause the bullet blew right through them and they were only 130 gr. bullets. They also grouped better than nosler accubonds and hornady SST bullets. I have never had much trouble with any soft points deforming in the magazine. I have a friend that shoots 117 gr. gamekings in his 25-06 and shoots well out to 800 yds. with them. He also uses 300 gr. Sierra matchkings in his 338 RUM and has no trouble killing deer with them at extended ranges. Tremendous energy.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up ordering a couple boxes and they should be getting here tomorrow. I'm excited to try them out. The 300 SMK is great for deer and antelope but I am wanting something that will hold together better for elk.
