Me and brother in law wanting to plan a elk hunt for 2019. Thinking Utah or new Mexico archery hunt. We're wanting to find landowner tags to make the hunt sure thing. Anyone have any recommendations on best way to purchase landowner tags? Maybe pointers on some units to look at for reasonably priced archery tags 2-3k tag for unit with good numbers or chance at solid 300-320 bull.
Any info appreciated guys,
Thanks, Grant Stricklin

Hunting Fool IMO has the best site for those. Lots of reasonable men on their selling them for reasonable prices......and some with ridiculous prices. Most though don't know what tags they have until the spring or around app time so I don't know about getting one for 2019 this early.

Expect to spend some big bucks in Utah for a any bull land owner tag.
I was thinking same thing also.. was hoping to draw unit in new Mexico say Gila or cibola first season archery. Be 3 of us apply if we all applied for first season and only one drew could split cost of other two landowner tags between us 3. My luck all 3 draw beings we only want one first season tag between us 3

Thanks slugz! I'll try that website see in spring. None of us have ever applied for new Mexico heard first times best odds don't know how true that is.. wished I knew odds of us 3 all applying for first season in cibola or one the Gila units.. maybe a better unit out there I'm not real familiar but i liked 34 I believe when I researched it supposed be really rough though.. one guy is older me and brother in law are 33 though so we good but easier unit still be nice but that's not always best for good hunting I know lol..

Don't overlook the over the counter tags in Colorado. Most of the bulls in these units will be under 300 but there are always a few wall hangers come out of the OTC units every year. And there are a few where access is a little bit of a problem that you can find elk up to 400 inches.

Yes sir got a buddy says same thing he hunts there once every few years.. just like to really get in on some good action or have multiple chances at elk.. not really hard set on anywhere yet.. just like a good solid hunt we gonna take 3 weeks straight camping do it right..

Are you serious about 400" bulls out of OTC units? That's crazy! If you care to share the unit by PM, I'm all ears! ;)
That might motivate me to get in shape!

What's everyones opinion on top 5 units in new Mexico in order? Also what's another state with good landowner tag opportunities?

Landowner tags in NM in the top 5 units are going for $7000 - $10,000 tag only and are usually sold before or on the week they come out every year. $3000 for a top unit LO tag in NM is long gone.
