4 points to spend in 2018. I done very little bear hunting in the past and haven't had much success. So I'm not looking for a trophy, but do want to have a good chance of seeing bears.

Those of you that hunt bears in Colorado how do you go about it? When do you go and how do you fit it in around your other hunting?

Do you scout or call around and ask about bear sightings? Or just pull up and wander around the hills. ;)

In the past I've just picked areas where I've stumbled upon bears earlier in the year. Other times I've just shown up and started glassing.

Right now there are bears all over the place. Just about anytime that I am out in the boonies I will run into at least one or two of them. A friend that had a unit 35 ml deer tag last year saw quite a few while he was out hunting deer. I have also talked to a lot of bow hunters that run into them in unit 444 during the archery season. When I had my unit 61 elk ml tag I saw quite a few in the 2 days that I hunted down there.

So right now if you go for the September rifle hunt I would find a area that has a good population of them and then start glassing the open meadows during the early mornings and late afternoons and see what turns up. Or if you just want to hunt them while you have a deer or elk tag just purchase a tag and put it in your pocket. Then if you run into one you just have to decide if you want to shoot it or not.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

Jim, you sure see a lot more of them than I do. I did have one walk right by me in unit 61 last year.

Do bears graze in the fall like they do in the spring?

What's a good way to determine the bear density in particular areas?
Will the CPW stats tell me very much?
